Week 1 - Concepts & Pitches

I'm starting this blog to chronicle the progress of our team: MA315-A Animation Preproduction. I'd like to use this blog as a process book of sorts. In addition I'd like this to be a platform for feedback and encouragement on ideas and assignments. If you're on the team and have something you want posted: images and/or content, please send that in an email.

So at this stage, we're connecting a character that is a deity that wants to shed its preternatural prowess and responsibility. But the opportunity remains open for the inept hit-man story concept, provided writers come up with the required 10 pitches for the deity character first.

I am honestly excited by either prospect, and I plan on writing at least 10 pitches myself. But, a "god" character who wants to relinquish a power (or set of powers) that are related to their physicality directly, stands to be a strong story visually.

  3. So, I want to make it clear that for the story writers, Its ok to deviate away from the normal "cupid" "zues" stereo types that might be sticking in your head. For instance, many of my concepts are just inspired by the idea of ANY natural/elemental force (ie. god of rain, snow, sun, wind, darkness and dispare, nature).
This sort of lends itself to the idea that maybe this Deity doesn't want to be a god anymore because of the "natural" disasters they cause. Here are some really quick and easy examples:

goddess of chaos has a split personality - at first on the outside she's fairly innocent looking...pretty maybe? and gentle. But she has chaotic spurts where here evil side takes over and causes chaos to ensue in the realm of the living (earth in this case)
in result....a mountain crumbles and destroys a quaint little village. She then reverts back to her calm self and is sad/dissapointed - thus...not wanting to relinquish her powers.

a more comical one could be that this certain deity (could be what ever you want) doesn't want to be a god of "w/e" because of the outfit he has to wear. (it probably looks really funny compared to his other god colleague/ 2nd character) - more story takes place blah blah blah. but basically he's embarassed to be this god because of his funny attire.

Again these are just really simple basic ideas that might help you think outside of what you were previously imagining....
They aren't powerful or deep by any means. But I'm sure you story writers can make something great.

    1. Nick, I like your ideas about elemental deities. It calls to mind eastern mythological traditions and the concept of fung shui. There's a lot of existent imagery there. Google image: Shinto kami
